Free Prostate Specific Antigen
Free prostate-specific antigen (fPSA) is a form of PSA that circulates in the blood unbound to proteins. It is typically measured alongside total PSA to improve the accuracy of prostate cancer risk assessment, particularly in cases where total PSA results fall within an intermediate or “grey zone” range.
The ratio of free to total PSA can help provide additional clinical information when evaluating prostate conditions and may assist in distinguishing between benign prostate enlargement and malignancy.
The findings related to these particular clinical tests are a general guide and do not cover every possible scenario, this is because every patient is unique and these results only have true clinical significance when combined with the patient’s full medical history, a physical exam, and other diagnostic findings.
