Testosterone
Testosterone is the primary androgen hormone responsible for the development and maintenance of male sexual characteristics and reproductive function, and it is also present in lower levels in females. Testing is used to assess androgen status in both men and women.
It is commonly indicated in the evaluation of infertility, delayed puberty, erectile dysfunction, hirsutism, suspected hypogonadism, and possible androgen-secreting tumours.
The findings related to these particular clinical tests are a general guide and do not cover every possible scenario, this is because every patient is unique and these results only have true clinical significance when combined with the patient’s full medical history, a physical exam, and other diagnostic findings.
