Diagnostic Test
Iron
Serum iron measures the amount of circulating iron bound to transferrin in the blood. It is typically interpreted alongside ferritin, transferrin saturation, and total iron-binding capacity (TIBC) to assess overall iron status, including iron deficiency anaemia and iron overload conditions. A single serum iron measurement has limited diagnostic value when used in isolation.
The findings related to these particular clinical tests are a general guide and do not cover every possible scenario, this is because every patient is unique and these results only have true clinical significance when combined with the patient’s full medical history, a physical exam, and other diagnostic findings.
