Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH)
Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is an enzyme found in many tissues throughout the body. It is a non-specific marker that may increase when there is tissue damage or cell breakdown. Elevated levels can be seen in conditions such as haemolysis, malignancy, liver disease, and myocardial infarction. In selected cases, LDH isoenzyme analysis may provide additional diagnostic information.
The findings related to these particular clinical tests are a general guide and do not cover every possible scenario, this is because every patient is unique and these results only have true clinical significance when combined with the patient’s full medical history, a physical exam, and other diagnostic findings.
