Uric Acid
Uric acid is a waste product formed from the breakdown of purines and is excreted primarily by the kidneys. Measurement of uric acid levels is commonly used in the diagnosis and management of gout, as well as in monitoring patients with renal impairment or those receiving cytotoxic therapy. Elevated levels (hyperuricaemia) may also be seen in conditions such as tumour lysis syndrome.
